Summer Wilderness Vacations
Commander and Company offers one of Colorado’s finest Wilderness Vacations, whether it is on foot , horseback, fully guided or an unguided high country drop camp.
The Raggeds Wilderness encompasses 65,000 acres and overlaps two National Forests: the Gunnison and the White River. The name comes from the very jagged, “Ragged” Range. The headwaters of Anthracite Creek, North Fork of the Gunnison, and the Crystal Rivers begin from numerous mountain ranges.
Our services are provided in the Gunnison National Forest in GMU 521 in the midst of the rugged peaks, expansive alpine tundra, high basin lakes, glacial river valleys and beautiful forest, all awaiting you, the visitor. Your journey will provide the opportunity to safely enjoy Colorado’s wildlife including elk, bear, mule deer, grouse and meadows of wild alpine flowers as we wander through the mountain terrain.
In an effort to meet your needs and exceed your expectations, we pride ourselves in providing professional guides, packers, experienced livestock, dependable equipment and some of the best meals in the valley. We can customize your outdoor experience to meet your needs!
For those of you who would like to experience Colorado’s Outdoors but are not interested in hiking or horseback rides, contact us, we can gladly accommodate your needs in our BLM camps. Wheeler and vehicle access offer equal oppoprtunities to enjoy wildlife and wild flowers in Colorado’s Outdoors.
Can’t join us in the summer, perhaps you would like to join us for a Colorado Hunting Adventure with Commander and Company in the Raggeds Wilderness, home of the world record elk killed by John Plutte in 1897. Truly a historical experience!
